Just recently, a customer visited Mrs. G’s looking for a 4 piece kitchen package that was NOT stainless. She did not want the upkeep of cleaning off finger prints and buffing out scratches. I assured her that there are more finger print issues in an appliance store than what will show up in her house. However, she also wanted her refrigerator to hold magnets so she could post her kids pictures and to do list. She was clearly not a candidate for stainless. So to summarize, if you hate finger prints and want magnets on your fridge stainless is NOT for you. So what is available without looking like your kitchen is dated….I have some favorites.

GE Slate Finish
Are you a fan of Rachael Ray? If so, then you have more than likely seen this refrigerator. And yes, it has lots of pictures and notes magnetically attached to the door. This is GE’s new fashion-forward finish, Slate: a color that is just as stylish and sophisticated as stainless steel but with a strong, earthy feel.
And if you like the look of slate, you can have it throughout your entire kitchen, as GE offers a Slate option in a refrigerator, range, microwave, and dishwasher. A total 4 piece package will give your kitchen a sophisticated, modern look with its attractive style. But the great thing about this finish is that even if you are just replacing one or two appliances, GE Slate appliances still blend nicely with other stainless steel, or even black or white ones for that matter. And of course, best of all, it resists fingerprints and is easy to clean! Be sure to call for the best price and rebates we have available at the time.
Whirlpool White & Black Ice
With clean lines, silver accents and streamlined controls, the new collection’s side-by-side refrigerator or French Door Refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and microwave are a departure from the flash and glitz of stainless steel. At the 2013 CES Whirlpool not only introduced the White Ice Collection, but also introduced their new logo, which shows a brand that is looking to the future, with a suite of appliances that looks good but also has features that make life so much easier.
One example is the AquaLift(R) feature, an energy-efficient self-clean technology that delivers easy and odor-free oven cleaning in only 50 minutes, using little water and low-heat to release baked-on foods from the bottom of the oven. When the cleaning cycle is complete, soils and excess water can be easily removed with a dry towel.
There are also many other amazing features included in the White & Black Ice line, but the look is one of the main selling points that set it apart. Whether you want the elegant White Ice finish or the refined edge of the Black Ice, both options provide an excellent alternative to stainless. So if you are looking for a new finish in your kitchen and want to keep it looking modern, but without stainless steel appliances, these are my two favorite options. Both lines will give you appliances that resist fingerprints and are easier to clean, but also provide a stylish and unique design. We have GE Slate and Whirlpool White & Black Ice appliances on display in the Mrs. G’s showroom and online at www.MrsGs.com.
