Before trying a new restaurant, booking a hotel or making a major purchase, what do most of us do?

We read the reviews.

I do it too.

But I’ve learned that the most useful thing about reviews isn’t simply the number of stars. It’s the story behind them — and sometimes, how a business responds when something doesn’t go perfectly.

At Mrs. G Appliances, we’re fortunate to receive many reviews from our customers. The reviews are from real customers who have taken the time to tell others about their experience with us.

That matters to me.

Reviews Are About Trust

A refrigerator, range, dishwasher or laundry pair may be in your home for the next 10 or 15 years. There may be delivery considerations, installation requirements, measurements, electrical or plumbing needs, and eventually, service.

So when you read reviews about an appliance retailer, don’t just look at the star rating.

Look for the details.

Did the salesperson listen? Did they understand the customer’s project and budget? Was the delivery handled professionally? Did someone communicate when there was a problem? And perhaps most importantly: What happened after the sale?

Those comments tell you much more about a business than a number ever could.

We’re Not Perfect — and Neither Are Appliances

I don’t believe a page filled with nothing but glowing reviews necessarily tells the whole story.

We’re not perfect. No business is.

Appliances are also complicated machines, and occasionally a product will need service. Manufacturers can experience parts delays, service challenges and other issues that are outside a retailer’s direct control.

But here’s where I believe a retailer can make a difference.

When one of our customers has a problem, we don’t want them to feel like they’re on their own. Our team works to respond quickly, help coordinate authorized service when needed and, when circumstances call for it, advocate for our customer with the manufacturer.

Our mission at Mrs. G is Life Better, and to me that mission matters most when something hasn’t gone according to plan.

Sometimes the Most Interesting Review Is the Negative One

When I’m researching a business, I often read a few of the negative reviews.

Not because I expect perfection — but because I want to see the response.

Did the company ignore the customer? Become defensive? Send a generic response?

Or did someone listen, respond and try to solve the problem?

A negative review can actually tell you a great deal about the culture of a company.

And that’s a lesson that goes far beyond appliances.

A Business Lesson Hidden in Every Review

After decades in business, I’ve come to think of reviews as more than a marketing tool. They’re feedback.

Positive reviews tell us what we’re doing well and what customers value. Critical reviews show us where communication or processes may need to improve.

Both are useful.

The worst thing a business can do is become defensive and stop listening.

Every review represents someone who chose to spend their money with your company. If they then take additional time to tell you about their experience — good or bad — you should pay attention.

How Should You Read Appliance Store Reviews?

If you’re researching Mrs. G Appliances reviews — or reviews of any appliance retailer — look beyond the overall rating.

Read what customers say about the people, the advice they received, delivery, communication and what happened when there was an issue.

Look at recent reviews as well as older ones. And read the company’s responses.

Those details will tell you a lot about the business you’re considering trusting with your home.

We’re incredibly appreciative of the customers who have taken the time to review Mrs. G Appliances over the years. Their comments help future customers make more informed decisions — and they help us continue to learn.

Because ultimately, a review isn’t just about stars.

It’s about trust — and what a business does to earn it.
