I love coming up with “out of the box” marketing ideas especially when they work. Here’s how my latest cooking event on Saturday, January 22, 2011 featuring Dennis Malloy from NJ101.5 FM at Mrs. G’s played out. I was shooting a radio commercial for Black Friday 2010 when I realized I was in the studio the same time popular radio host Dennis Malloy was on air. If you are a loyal listener you would know he always talks about his great raviolis and how much he loves to cook for his family and friends. So I asked if Dennis would like to cook for his fans at Mrs. G’s. I alway say “Never be afraid to ask…..the worst anyone can say is no.” Dennis said YES!!! How about that!
The NJ101.5 crew created a registration on line and randomly selected 100 guests. 540 people signed up. Wow, is he popular. I could not expect Dennis to cook for all 100. Dennis chose 15 to be his VIP tasters and I personally invited, with the help of Hilary Morris PR, 4 food bloggers. As most of you know, I am a huge supporter of locally owned businesses. I selected Pennington Quality Market, locally owned for 50 years, to supply nibbles to my 100 guests.
Not only was Miele honored to be the selected brand for the demonstration but my Miele rep was very excited because he is a Dennis Malloy fan, too. I was pleasantly surprised Dennis has just as many men listeners as women.
This was the first time Dennis cooked live for his fan. By the way, he loved the Miele induction cooktop , oven and was blown away by the awesome Miele 30″ Refrigerator and 18″ Freezer . The NJ101.5 crew did an amazing job even streaming the event online. I was told over 200 watched it live on www.nj1015.com. The event was a huge success and the crew over at the radio station is fired up to have another. We’re talking about a grill event in the late spring with Big Joe Henry. Stay tuned folks!
