Hi, it’s Debbie Schaeffer, CEO of Mrs G, and I’m here to share a tip to help make your next cooktop purchase easy and stress free with no surprises. One of the best tips when purchasing a new appliance is to take some basic measurements before leaving the house. This will save you time and make your whole shopping experience much easier. So if you’re looking to replace your cooktop, make sure to follow these steps before you begin shopping. All you need is measuring tape, a smart phone, and a helper to get started.
Take pictures of the cooktop as well as the measurements so you won’t have to write anything down. Have your helper snap a photo as you take each measurement. First, measure the width and depth of your current cooktop. Ideally, you would measure the cutout of the countertop, but that’s generally not possible without removing your current cooktop.
Also be sure to measure the cabinet that the cooktop is placed in. If you’re looking to upgrade in size, for example, from 30″ to a 36″ cooktop, the new appliance may not fit into your cabinet. Accurate measurements are really important because not all brands have the same dimensions and say if you have a granite counter, cutting even 1/8 of an inch can be costly, time consuming and messy.
If possible, take a picture of the model number of your cooktop. This may be found on the underside of the cooktop or in the manual. Then bring your pictures and measurements in and we’ll find the perfect cooktop for you and your home with no surprises.
