Mrs. G TV & Appliances is pleased to announce the Grand Prize winner of the 2nd Annual “Paint Our Fridge Pink” contest. Lawrence Middle School student, Eliza Wirkijowski aged 13, earned the top spot for her design featuring the statistic “1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer” and a row of silhouettes along the bottom of the refrigerator. As Grand Prize winner, Eliza will receive $150, and Mrs. G’s will donate $500 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Central & South Jersey.

“It was a hard decision to choose among such talented designs created by local students,” commented Ms. Schaeffer. “When it came to making the final decision, Eliza’s use of the breast cancer statistic in addition to having a strong visual impact is what led us to choose her for Grand Prize.”

Eliza was chosen as a finalist in October along with four other students representing middle and upper schools in Mercer County. They gathered at Mrs. G’s to paint pink ribbon themed designs on retired non-working refrigerators. An online voting process, which ran through November 9th, helped determine the finalists’ placements. Grand Prize was then chosen by Debbie Schaeffer and guest judge Jeff Nathanson, executive director of the Arts Council of Princeton. In addition to Grand Prize, cash prizes were awarded to a 1st runner up, 2nd runner up, and 2 honorable mention designs whose results were based solely on the online voting numbers.

The following students were awarded for their talented designs:

1. 1st Runner Up: Annastacia Jimenez, 16, Hamilton High School West, Hamilton

1st Runner Up, Annastacia

2. 2nd Runner Up: Siddharth Muchhal, 13, Thomas Grover Middle School, West Windsor

2nd Runner Up, Siddharth

3. Honorable Mention: Skylar Bajek, 12, Reynolds Middle School, Hamilton

Honorable Mention, Skylar

4. Honorable Mention: Charlotte Zaininger, 16, Princeton Day School, Princeton

Honorable Mention, Charlotte

Both the Grand Prize and 1st Runner Up refrigerators will remain on display in the Mrs. G showroom in Lawrenceville and will be showcased at the annual Blue Point Grille Oyster Bowl in February, which is also a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen of Central and South Jersey.

We would also like to thank the event sponsors for their contribution to such a worthy cause. Whirlpool Corp. donated working refrigerators for local graffiti artists to paint. They will be auctioned off for the SGK Foundation at their annual gala. Local art supplier Jerry’s Artarama of Lawrenceville donated paint and supplies for both the students and graffiti artists to use.

Thank you to all the students who participated in the contest and to everyone who voted online!
