Oh yes, it has been very tough these last few days since Hurricane Sandy but I am not complaining. I’m thinking of all our friends, neighbors and fellow New Jerseyans who lost their homes and business due to Sandy and I wish them a speedy recovery. I have been in a storm a few years back, not Irene, but a strong storm in 2010 with so much rain over a long period of time that many of the older trees in my neighborhood, after a strong Nor’estern wind, just could not stand anymore and caused havoc with down wires and closed roads. I could not even get back to my house and being in the car with my daughters we were really scared and quickly checked into a hotel. So with Hurricane Sandy I was ready for the worst.
The store has survived so many storms over the years. With all the flooding last year along Route 1 in Mercer County from Hurricane Irene I was in awe that the water only approached the front doors and never ventured into Mrs. G’s. Mrs. G was definitely watching over me and her beloved store. Hurricane Sandy did not produce enough water to cause any flooding in our area however as you know power was the problem. By Wednesday 10/31 we opened and came to find out we were the only ones on Route 1 with power. Mrs. G? Probably!
