Hi, it’s Debbie Schaeffer, CEO of Mrs G, and I’m here to share a tip to help make your next gas stovetop purchase easy and stress free with no surprises. Gas stovetops come in two varieties: Cooktops and Rangetops. What’s the difference?
Cooktops have controls on top of the cooking surface. They generally feature one power burner and produce roughly 50,000 – 60,000 BTU’s of heat when all the burners are on high.
Rangetops have front facing controls and generally have all power burners that produce from 60,000 to over 110,000 BTU’s when all the burners are on high.
Many of our customers are interested in upgrading from a cooktop to a rangetop. It can be done, however, if you are looking to upgrade, there are a few items to consider. Because the rangetop extends over the front, you’ll have to modify your cabinet. You will also have to upgrade your ventilation to properly handle the increase in heat, smoke, and smells from the rangetop
